Our Track Spotlight from 2016
This weeks spotlight we head just an hour or so drive time South of Quesnel to a very different track than we have seen in the spotlight over the past 4 weeks. Williams lake is quickly becoming another destination spot for BC Motocross enthusiasts. Tammy Deausy was on our radar to answer our track questions and is the treasurer for the Williams Lake Dirt Riders. Tammy also prides herself as the First lady to the president (husband Mike) and loving mother of 2 boys with bikes. Here’s what Tammy had to say about the Williams Lake Track:
MCQMX - What are the things riders love most about your track?
Tammy - Our track has awesome flow with large jumps, and wide corners.
MCQMX - What are some of the challenging aspects with riding your track?
Tammy - Our hard compact dirt can be a challenge when it is dry and also greasy when wet. Our heavily treed setting can have many light changing conditions.
MCQMX - What kind of soil makes up your track?
Tammy - It’s a Heinz 57 mix that equals Hard compact dirt.
MCQMX - Are there plans for any changes to the track or facility for 2016?
Tammy - We recognize that we need more gates, and we are planning to increase the amount this season. With that change we will need to shake it up a bit with where we start our riders. We are excited about those track changes, and know all our riders will love it.
MCQMX - What would you like riders and families to know about your track or area that you think would encourage them to come to your mcqmx event date (s)? May 28&29, BC Championship Sept 10&11
Tammy - It has been said that our track is a favorite amongst many riders all over our province. We are blessed to have such an amazing dedicated executive board who is committed to making our track and facility the best it can be. With a strong knowledge base of veterans and pro riders such as Brock Hoyer doing track maintenance and design our track proves to be an epic ride. Our heavy treed grounds gives our camping moto families security and privacy. We have just had an amazing Reno done by our own timber kings and would love nothing more than have everyone near and far come and enjoy all we have to offer. Let’s go racing Braaaap!
We also had the opportunity to get some feedback from a dude that is no stranger to this sport. This guy makes about everything with a motor look like he was born on it and has competed at the top level in Canadian Motocross. Brock Hoyer has not only competed as a rider but also commits much of his spare time to helping his local club which just happens to be Williams Lake Dirt riders. Lets hear what the Vice-President had to say about his home track:
Brock - The Williams Lake track is a great intermediate hard pack track with mixed sand to help soften it up. It has lots of great land features and ups and downs as well as some fast sections. It is a very safe track for all riding levels and is tucked away in our beautiful Cariboo forest with lots of shade and some great views.
